Refinishing Engineered Hardwood: What You Need to Know
Engineered hardwood flooring can be refinished, depending on the thickness of its wear layer. If your engineered wood floor has a wear layer of 2mm or more, it’s usually safe to refinish at least once without damaging the surface.
During the refinishing process, about 0.75mm to 1mm of the top layer is sanded away to remove scratches, scuffs, and surface damage. This makes engineered hardwood a durable, long-lasting option—even in high-traffic areas—combining real wood beauty with refinishing flexibility.
Before refinishing, consult a flooring expert to evaluate the thickness of your wear layer and determine the best approach.
